4th of JULY
July 4, 2009
To this day whenever the American Flag passes in a parade I still get tears in my eyes and a lump in my throat. I'm finding, the older I get the more difficult it is to recite the Pledge of Allegiance without a tear sliding down my cheek. Old Glory, the Grand Old Flag, Red, White and Blue, whatever you want to call it, it still stands for freedom. It represents the young men and women who have fought and died for our country. Who have given the ultimate sacrafice for us, so that we can stand on the sidelines of a parade and salute that flag. That flag represents the freedom we have to worship in the Church of our choice. It represents the freedom to read the books we desire to read. It represents being able to write and speak our minds. I was shopping the other day, not sure what I was shopping for, when a plaque caught my eye. It was a small wooden plaque, representing the flag, and on the face of the plaque were the words, ONE NATION UNDER GOD, HOME OF THE FREE, BECAUSE OF THE BRAVE.
That plaque hangs proudly in my kitchen for all to see.
HAPPY BIRTHDAY AMERICA
